Ever consider building a shed? If you have there are several things you should look at before starting. As with any project, big or small, a game plan needs to be developed. This will make your choices and decisions easier to make. These questions, whether you’ve thought them through or not, are important when deciding to use shed plans to build.
1. What do you really need the shed for?
To start with you may be thinking its going to be used to store just the garden equipment. Think hard about this. Is it going to end up being a family shed? In other words, are the kids going to want to store their sports equipment in there? Or is the wife going to find a new place for the Christmas decorations, in your shed? So make a hard and fast rule of what the shed will be used for. Choose your shed plan accordingly.
2. What size do you want your shed to be?
Now you know exactly what it is going to be used for, that will give you the size that you are going to want. Don’t forget to plan for the future. If the shed is restricted to garden outdoor items, you will most likely be adding to your collection over the next few years, so you don’t want to have to build a shed all over again. Choose a shed plan that is large enough.
3. Where are you going to put your shed?
You need to determine where the best place for your shed is. It has to be some place accessible, without walking through your flowerbeds. Probably tucked away so it doesn’t interfere with your landscaping. Again think of the future, you don’t want to have to move it. Is the area big enough for the size of shed you want to build? If not then there has to be a compromise, either in the space or the size. Where is very important when choosing your shed plan.

4. Does your shed need to be insulated, waterproof, or open?
If you are in a four season climate then you need to decide what seasons you need the shed to be able to withstand the most. Your shed plan should help with that.
5. Do you require a building permit to build a shed?
Know what your local by-laws are for building a shed. It wouldn’t be nice to get your project finished, and then have city officials come along and tell you to take it down. Normally you won’t need a building permit if you stay within a specific size, but if you have determined to go larger than what’s allowed, you will have to submit shed building plans for approval.
6. Now one of the most important questions, what is your budget for this project?
Everything you have decided up to now is dependant on your budget. It is kind of difficult to set a budget when you haven’t determined the cost of materials yet. Your budget will help determine the shed building plans that you choose.
7. Where should you get your shed building plans?
When it’s time to choose your shed plans you should have figured out what the shed is being used for, what size it will be, where you will build it, what materials you will use, if a building permit is required, and your budget. With that in mind you need shed plans that will do all of the above. My Shed Plans offers 12000 woodworking and shed building plans. When asked about alternative energy or renewable energy, most people think of solar electricity. Generating electricity from the sun is a technology that everyone knows well. Whether it is your pocket calculator, home, or workshop, regardless of your power needs, solar electricity can get the job done.
Solar electricity has a number of unique advantages over conventional or grid-based electricity. Solar electric systems can be designed for a variety of applications and are extremely beneficial in remote areas where other electric opportunities do not exist. In addition, photovoltaic systems that generate solar electricity have no moving parts therefore requiring minimal maintenance, are easily expandable, and with many smaller units, transportable.
Environmental compatibility is a huge selling point for converting to solar electricity. The fuel for generating solar electricity is a free renewable resource, the sun. Solar electricity offers no noise pollution and actually almost no pollution from their operation. Another appealing factor for many who choose solar electricity over conventional electricity is simply the independence. It is an attractive offer to many rural dwellers to know that when the lights go out due to storms or blackouts, theirs are still working. No longer a slave to waiting on hold to report an outage to find it will be 10 hours before their service will be restored.
The hardest part of converting to solar electricity is the cost of the system. Investing in a solar energy system can be a substantial upfront cost. The value of solar electricity is realized over several years. A professionally installed solar array for an average dwelling (avg. $100/month in electric bills) could pay for itself in 5 years. You could reduce that number by building your own solar panel system or by purchasing a used system. With many solar energy systems in less rural areas and only in some states, you can sell your unused solar electricity back to the electric company. In these situations the return on your investment is realized much more quickly.
Using the power of sun with solar electricityis a benefit to the environment and to your home. Solar electricity is already being used to supplement power for a number of large cities in North America. Take time to learn more about solar electricity and how you can have trade in your electric bill for a carefree life with solar electricity.
In my over 10 years of experience in the health and fitness industry, I’ve seen many trends come and go…Grapefruit diets, liquid diets, low carb diets, cauliflower diets (ok, I made that up), but there is always “a new popular kid in town” and weight loss ideas that are the “cool in thing” to do.
It seems like these days everyone is going on a Gluten Free Diet and avoiding gluten like the plague, but is this strategy really the best way to lose weight? Let’s dive into the topic a little deeper.
What is Gluten?
First I will tell you what gluten is NOT. Gluten is not a grain, but is a component of grains and cereals. Gluten is actually a protein and is most commonly found in wheat, rye and barley. Since most breads, cereals, crackers, pasta and many packaged snacks all contain either wheat, rye or barley, these foods are all gluten-containing foods.
There are many grains that do not contain gluten such as wild rice, corn, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, quinoa, and some oats. So people who are avoiding gluten will still eat and enjoy these foods or any food made from them.
Going “gluten free” has become all the rage in the weight loss and health industry. Just as going low fat or low carb had its time in the limelight, it seems like the new fad and trend is to go gluten free (c’mon, all the cool kids are doing it). There is a small percentage of people (less than 1% in the United States) that DO need to avoid gluten at all costs because they suffer from an extreme allergy to gluten called Celiac Disease. This is a very serious disease that needs to be diagnosed and treated by the right medical professionals and should not be taken lightly.
A greater percentage of people are not walking around with Celiac Disease (trust me, you would know if you had it), but have a moderate to severe intolerance to gluten where their digestive system simply cannot process this particular protein causing them symptoms like gas, bloating, and digestive difficulty. Another problematic side effect of gluten intolerance is the inability to lose unwanted fat off your body, making it extremely difficult to even lose a few stubborn pounds.
With that being said, I’m going to tell you something extremely important about gluten. READY? You Do NOT have to give up gluten in order to lose weight and be healthy. With gluten free being the latest cool topic on the weight loss circuit, everyone seems to believe that having a completely gluten freediet is the only way to lose weight. Now, I’m not saying there isn’t value in giving it a try and many people have experienced drastic changes in their health and weight when going gluten free, but I want you to take your health journey at your own comfortable pace and follow a plan that is livable and doable for you.
The biggest benefit for those who even suspect they may be even slightly gluten intolerant is a relief of their digestive symptoms and weight loss. Yes, people who have struggled for some time even just trying to lose a few pounds have seen a dramatic change in their health and weight loss efforts when taking some time away from gluten and gluten containing products.
